Hi there…

I am a creative copywriter with 10+ years of experience creating content for health care providers and patient audiences.

Why do I write for healthcare?

I write to educate patients on how to advocate for healthy lives. I write for health care providers to learn to listen with greater empathy.

The month before I started grad school, my father lost his battle with lung cancer. He drove to the hospital feeling just a little out of breath, then a doctor ordered a treadmill stress test instead of using a nuclear stress test with dye. My parents were raised to never question doctors. His lung collapsed while on the treadmill and we lost him hours later. The Veterans Health Administration had attributed the lung cancer to agent orange exposure during my father’s two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. I tell myself once a Marine, always a Marine, and that he died with his boots on, but he didn’t have to die that day.

Years later, my brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer that was almost missed. His first doctor thought the prevalence of prostate cancer in African-Americans was too low to test him for it. Thankfully, my brother got a second opinion. After several rounds of treatment, he has been in remission for over 10 years.

Based on my family’s lived experiences, I bring a passion for health equity to all I do. I strive to break barriers in patient/doctor communications. I believe in the transformative power of stories to shift hearts and minds.

I’ve worked as a client-facing healthcare copywriter for over 10 years, for clients such as Genentech, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Gilead Sciences, and Amgen. I use a strategic storytelling process to drive brand awareness, understanding, and adoption. I have 5 years of supervisory experience and am an active member of the Omnicom Health Group DEI Advisory Board.

With a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction, my work is infused with my love of science and storytelling. I’d say my superpowers are deep curiosity, close listening, unbridled imagination, and the capacity to dream.

I am based in the San Francisco Bay Area and enjoy all that Northern California has to offer. When I’m not writing, you might find me on a Mendocino wine train, exploring along Pacific Coast Highway, or foraging wild, gourmet mushrooms on the Sonoma Coast.
